Couples Tribute: Amy & Nate

Amy and Nate were married on June 5, 2021 in a garden/tented wedding celebration at Celebrate Snug Harbor. It was a very romantic, memorable day for all.

We wanted to share our love of Snug Harbor with all our family and friends and show them a side of Staten Island & NYC that they wouldn’t otherwise get to see.

Our wedding ceremony took place in the Tuscan Garden. Our reception followed in the Great Hall.

We did not have a wedding planner, but the amazing team at Celebrate Snug Harbor was by our side every step of the way.

DIY elements – Amy’s mom made the pillow for the ring bearer using fabric from Amy’s sister’s wedding (her bridesmaids also wore navy dresses) and lace that matched Amy’s wedding dress. Amy’s sister and Matron of Honor, Alyson, did the calligraphy on all of the invitations and place cards.

TRUST THE CELEBRATE TEAM. They know everything.

While planning, don’t forget to go out on dates and talk things through with your partner! You’re in this together.

Couples Tribute: Masha & Kevin

Masha and Kevin were married on August 29th, 2020 in an outdoor wedding celebration at Celebrate Snug Harbor. It was a very romantic, memorable day for all.

Why did you pick Snug Harbor for your wedding, was there any special reason?

We picked Celebrate Snug Harbor for our wedding venue for many reasons. Growing up I have fond memories of going to the art lab and walking around the grounds with my mom. Furthermore, my husband and I had gone on many dates at Snug Harbor. There was one moment when we actually walked around the field over by The Tented Pavilion, and I am pretty sure that’s where I first realized he was the one. The one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. It was very special to get married there, in that exact same spot.

Where on the grounds of Snug Harbor did your wedding take place?

We had our wedding ceremony in the Tuscan Garden followed by our wedding reception in the Tented Pavilion.

Did you have a wedding planner or any DIY elements?

We did not use a wedding planner, but we were very fortunate enough to have my mom Victoria assist with all the wedding details and planning.

Did you have a certain wedding theme or color scheme?

We went with a garden theme for our wedding. Our beautiful flowers were done by InFlowers. We went with a color scheme of blush, grey and eucalyptus. Each guests recieved succulents for their favor.

What was your 1st Dance Song?

For our 1st dance we picked Dustin Kensrue’s song Of Crows and Crowns. Kevin sent me this song when we were dating and I absolutely loved it.

Advice for future celebrate couples?

“Celebrate Snug Harbor is beyond a beautiful venue and the team made all my wedding dreams come true. John was the most supportive coordinator and was an absolute pleasure to work with. My day of bridal attendant was my hero! When my dress was too long for the first and the father daughter dance she was able to fix it on the spot so I wouldn’t be tripping over my own feet. Aside from the most beautiful grounds, Snug harbor provides a unique experience for the wedding guests allowing them to explore and be inspired by the space.”

We are so lucky to have delightful couples like Masha and Kevin to work with at Celebrate Snug Harbor. A special thank you to Julian Ribinik Photography who was on hand to capture every moment of this special wedding.

Couples Tribute: Emily & Joe

Emily and Joe were married on August 22, 2020 in an outdoor micro wedding celebration at Celebrate Snug Harbor. This couple didn’t let the pandemic put a damper on their I Dos! With a bit of imagination, they found ways to rework their celebration to make it both safe AND sentimental. It was a very romantic, memorable day for all.

Why did you pick Snug Harbor for your wedding, was there any special reason?

Our wedding date was August 22, 2020.  We picked Snug Harbor after our original plans were cancelled due to the pandemic.  We live on the North Shore of Staten Island and were familiar with how beautiful the setting was and the excellent reputation Celebrate Snug Harbor has.  We also had been guests to weddings there and were always very pleased.

Where did you wedding take place at Celebrate Snug Harbor?

The ceremony was in Tuscan Garden and the cocktail reception was in the Tented Pavillion.

Do you have a certain wedding theme? Color scheme? Special décor, favors for guests?

We opted to donate to 3 local non-profits in lieu of traditional favors in light of everything that was going on.

Did you have a wedding planner or any DIY elements?

Though we did not have a wedding planner we have to give a special shout out to Erin O’Keefe – the Catering and Events Specialist – she went above and beyond from the moment we first met with her right up thru the end of our reception!

What was your wedding song?

Our wedding song was “You and Me” by Dave Matthews.

Advice for future couples planning their weddings?

“If anyone is considering having a wedding, we highly recommend Celebrate Snug Harbor without any reservation!  The setting, the food, the service, and all the staff involved were outstanding and beyond our expectations.”

We are so lucky to have delightful couples like Emily and Joe to work with at Celebrate Snug Harbor. A special thank you to their photographer Rita Sykes de la Pena who was on hand to capture every moment of this special wedding.

Morning vs. Evening Weddings

When having a spring or summer wedding, you have options in scheduling your wedding day. Although very popular to have a late afternoon wedding that goes into the night, there’s something unique and intimate about having a morning wedding. Whether you’ve dreamed of having a dinner with dancing into the early hours of the morning, or mimosas with low-key brunch or lunch reception, you can’t go wrong as long as you consider the main elements of your day.

Consider the venue:

Make sure your venue offers you what you want for either style wedding. At Celebrate at Snug Harbor, you have the choice of both indoor and outdoor venues with lots of lighting for a morning wedding.  Daytime weddings are also excellent for a garden party or reception, of which Celebrate offers many garden options. The featured photos highlight both indoor and outdoor ceremony options for a morning wedding. The Art Gallery on the Snug Harbor property offers optimal lighting so that everyone can see the gorgeous details of your ceremony and the building. The top photo took place in our Tuscan Garden, which is entirely outdoors. Indoor or outdoor, you can’t go wrong!

Consider the menu:

If you’re going for a morning wedding, you’ll want to offer more of a lunch-time meal to your guests. Because Celebrate at Snug Harbor is operated by Relish Caterers + Event Planning, you won’t have to break a sweat over morning or evening wedding menus.

For morning weddings, consider small plates as your main meal with hors d’oeuvres. The featured collage highlights just a fraction of what Relish Caterers can come up with for your special day. You can serve a fresh beef carpaccio, as featured on the top of the collage. From the left to right, the bottom photos include a beet napoleon, escarole salad with roasted strawberries and walnuts, and a roasted beet salad. You’ll want a caterer that can bring color and flavor to life with your small plates. Relish Caterers can do just that!

There can be fantastic pros to either wedding time. The most important decisions you make will be where you have your wedding and who will take care of the meals so that no matter the time of day, you’ll be able to enjoy the memorable day.

Stylish Lighting

Part of capturing the magic on your wedding day is making sure you have the right lighting to accentuate the details. When planning your ceremony and reception, consult with your Event Designer about ways to enhance the natural light in your venue for daytime festivities and create ambiance for evening entertaining.  Some of the most impactful lighting options can be achieved through the use of candles, string lights, and lanterns.  These simple options offer enormous flexibility and versatility with respect to event style, mood, and budget.

Candles:

Can you ever really overdo it with candles? Some of the best ways to incorporate candles into your wedding include decorating the aisle with candles to mark the aisle entrance or asking each guest to hold a lit candle during the religious portion of your ceremony.   Candles easily transition into the cocktail hour and reception by incorporating clusters of candles into your centerpieces.  Or using candles throughout the space to accent windowsills and in seating vignettes.

String Lights:

Talk about setting the mood! String lights are an excellent choice for wedding lighting because they can go almost anywhere. You can never go wrong with stringing lights above and across your reception, as featured in the collage below. This is a stylish and elegant way to incorporate lighting into your wedding. One of our favorite ways to get creative with string lighting includes having a wall of hanging bistro or string lights as your backdrop, as in the bottom left photo. Additional ways to have a unique twist to string lights include letting them dangle as individual pieces, as a type of chandelier, or to wrap them around a set of trees to create your own, personal backdrop for photos. Special note, be sure to use exterior grade string lighting outside and the indoor grade string lighting for inside use.

Lanterns:

Including lanterns adds a whole new feel to your lighting decor. There are several options of lanterns to choose from to match your venue’s theme. Favorites for this style are paper lanterns that hang from the ceiling. Paper lanterns can include actual tea-lights or battery-powered lights. We recommend battery-powered lights so that your paper lanterns look lit up throughout your ceremony and reception. To elevate your lighting decor, consider placing tea lights in a hanging glass lantern, as featured in the bottom right corner. Although subtle, the floating effect of the lanterns creates a magical feel to the room. Have we mentioned how much we love the hanging mason jar lanterns in the featured ceremony? By adding the twine to hang the mason jars, this couple really accentuated the rustic feel of their ceremony!
