Kristina’s Bridal Shower Bliss

KBO Shower -96Kristina’s bridal shower was a splendid affair. The champagne drinks and dreamy floral lantern arrangements were a testament to the magical day Kristina had been envisioning since she first saw the tall ceilings, rich wood finishes and Palladian windows of The Great Hall.

KBO Shower -14She felt inspired; this was the quintessential place for her romantic and wistful celebration.

The wall décor, table settings, centerpieces and adorable custom cakes, all vividly captured by Mike Gloria Photography, were thoughtful, well-appointed details, carefully constructed by her Aunt, Bridal Party and the Celebrate Snug Harbor team to convey the bride’s true love for gardens and flowers.

The indulgent dessert station boasted candy decorations that were converted into favors at party’s end, ensuring the sweet memory would linger long after guests had returned home.

KBO Shower -71

But, the sweetest memory of all was the tremendous love Kristina received from the special women in her life.

KBO Shower -28

Kristina agreed, this day was the perfect entryway into a season of wedding jubilee.

Couples Tribute – Serena & Ola

_J3A9407When Serena and Ola first got engaged they were considering a destination location wedding, but quickly changed their minds to make it easier for family and close friends to share in the day.  They wanted their wedding to represent them, where they lived and how they liked to spend their time.

_J3A9332

Serena and Ola fell in love with the idea of a garden wedding.  The Botanical Gardens at Snug Harbor are only a short drive from their new home in historic Hamilton Park. Home is where the heart is; Snug Harbor would serve as the perfect backdrop for their wedding day.

DSC_0220

The Tuscan Garden at Snug Harbor reminded Serena of the gardens of Versailles she had always loved.  On a sunny day at the end of September, the couple was married among the abundant plantings and Fall foliage.

Serena was a stunning Bride in a Pantora Bridal gown.  The Bridesmaids wore charcoal  gowns from Dessy Group. They decided bold, gold accessories paired with floral bouquets in hues of magenta, deep red, green and white really popped against their grey dresses.

Ola and his groomsmen looked dapper in their attire from The Black Tux. Their boutonnieres, made of magenta and purple orchids, stood out against their navy tuxedos.

After their ceremony Serena and Ola had a beautiful wedding reception in The Great Hall.  Their guests enjoyed watching them share their first dance to “Adorn” by Miquel,  an updated version of Prince’s classic “Adore”.

The wedding cake, provided by Palmeros Bakery, was decorated with a custom Monogram of their initials. Guests enjoyed dancing all evening to the tunes of DJ Greg Poole.

Serena and Ola shared this piece of advice with us for our future couples. “The only advice we have is to give yourself time to plan, and enjoy planning! And stick to your guns about what you both want.”

We are so lucky to have wonderful couples like Serena and Ola to work with at Celebrate Snug Harbor. A huge thanks to Oluwaseye Olusa and team for sharing these gorgeous photos with us.

Reception Cocktails

One of the best ways to keep your guests entertained throughout your wedding reception is to have a fun cocktail menu they can choose from. WeddingWire offers some great suggestions to help make your open bar one to remember.

Garnishes, Garnishes!

Garnishes add both decoration and/or flavor to a cocktail. Talk to your caterer about adding a fun citrus twist, decorative umbrellas, or custom stirrers to both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks!

sangria

Skip the sugary drinks and go healthy.

People are looking for healthier cocktails more than ever before. Ask your bartender to create a cocktail using a popular seltzer or an all natural mixer. Then, consider adding a fresh fruit or herb to the drink for a natural flavor.

Mocktails:
It’s always a nice touch to have a fun mocktail for your guests who are driving or not able to have an alcoholic drink. Consider a fun sparkling lemonade with a seasonal garnish so that the drink doesn’t feel boring or too simple.

Classics are a must:

Never underestimate the power of a good, old fashioned cocktail. Promote the classic drinks people haven’t had in ages, such as a French 75, a Manhattan, or a Gimlet.

Couples Tribute – Sara & Chez

When planning their fairy-tale wedding, Sara and Chez started with a vision statement of “Drum. Design. Fried Chicken.” And the rest as they say is history. 20170812 - SC 0609 (low-res)

Sara and Chez both love the outdoors and wanted a space that was beautiful yet close to New York City.

20170812 - SC 0562 (low-res)

They immediately fell in love with Snug Harbor, it was the first venue they saw, and they knew Snug Harbor was the best fit for their wedding day.

A little fun fact about Sara and Chez? They share the same birthday and met through Sara’s sister.

It was very important to Sara and Chez to pay tribute to their family cultures on their wedding day.  The couple honored Chez’s Chinese heritage by hosting their ceremony and cocktails in the Chinese Scholar Garden.

20170812 - SC 0541 (low-res)

A traditional Tea Ceremony was presented in front of friends and family among the hand crafted Ghongshi scholar’s rocks, Koi-filled pond and magnificent rockery that resemble mountains that inspired the poetry and paintings of Confucian, Buddhist and Taoist monks.

20170812 - SC 0642 (low-res)

The tea ceremony is a significant way for the bride and groom to pay respect and show their gratitude towards their parents for all the years of nurturing and love. In turn, the family will express blessings for the newlyweds as they start their marriage as husband and wife. The tea ceremony also symbolizes that the bride and the groom officially part of a new, extended family. During the ceremony, the bride and groom will address the relatives with their new titles while serving them tea. It was a special moment for both families.

20170812 - SC 0578 (low-res)

The highlight of their wedding was, without a doubt, the big surprise for their guests, a marching band!  Chez’ friend and former students from the NY Crimson Kings Drum Fife and Bugle Corps where he teaches, and Sara volunteers, performed a special set in the Chinese Scholar Garden at the end of the cocktail hour while leading everyone into the tented pavilion.

Guests were encouraged to “march” their way into the reception.

20170812 - SC 0725 (low-res)

Sara and Chez’ Bridal Party was filled with fun and lots of energy throughout the evening.

The couple used the Tented Pavilion to embrace Sara’s Miami/Cuban roots.  As their guests entered the tent they were welcomed by a “wall of fame”.  Sara and Chez took the time to put up pictures of themselves with all of their guests.

It was a touching gesture that shined a spotlight on just how important friends are family are to this dynamic couple.  At the end of the evening guests took home their framed picture from the “wall of fame”.

Sarah and Chez crafted a very personal wedding day, incorporating many DIY elements.  A warm, bright color palette tied everything together for a fun, festive evening.  Sara’s Sister is a talented Event Planner that worked closely with the Celebrate team to plan and coordinate every detail.

20170812 - SC 0761 (low-res)Three of the couples friends who are designers and event professionals, helped assembled the centerpieces Sara and Chez designed using flowers bought from the flower district.

20170812CenterPieces-0004_preview_jpeg

Talk about a talented Bride and Groom, Sara and Chez co-designed their wedding programs, illustrations, table settings, website, menu, signage and invitations.  As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the couple designed the bright red, hand cut paper flower wall artfully displayed behind their sweetheart table.

20170812 - SC 0799 (low-res)

20170812 - SC 0805 (low-res)

The flower wall was stunning along their photo booth back drop which was composed of hand cut paper leaves and took four people to assemble.

Chez’s talented cousin designed and baked their wedding cake; whichtook Three days to prepare and was thoroughly enjoyed by guests. The bride and Groom’s talented friends added to the day by crafting many of the bespoke touches featured in this blog such as the hand-sculpted porcelain wedding cake topper and giant paper mache’ dolls of them.

20170812 - SC 0622 (low-res)

For favors, Sara and Chez had Krispy Kreme donuts for everyone to take home plus they could take home their framed picture from the wall of fame. After the wedding they mailed everyone printed photos from their awesome photo-booth.

20170812 - SC 0902 (low-res).jpg

The night ended with “Hora Loca” which translates to crazy hour; basically, a Latin dance party during the last hour of the reception.

Sara and Chez’ wedding was full of impeccable style, accented with charming details, and overflowing with the purest moments of love and memories from their relationship.
