Couples Tribute: Wendy & Walter

W+W (321)

Wendy and Walter got married on a beautiful day in June 2017.  While planning their big day, the couple’s goal was to plan a wedding that was both timeless and elegant, but also organic and true to the nature of Snug Harbor.  Wendy and Walter wanted to incorporate both of their Chinese and Polish cultures into their wedding.  When picking the wedding date Wendy referred to the Chinese Calendar to pick their wedding date.  When you do this in their culture it is known if you hold the wedding in such a day, you will enjoy a happy and harmonious marriage.

W+W (546)

Wendy and Walter’s ceremony took place in the Tuscan Garden.  It was a breathtaking ceremony with many green and white floral elements true to the nature of Snug Harbor.  The flowers and all of the décor were added a DIY element to the wedding.  Florals were created by Wendy’s friend Eugenie Chen and herself.  Wendy loved working on the floral arrangements together along with the help of bridesmaids and friends.

They used bamboo chairs for their guests.  Every row of chairs was adorned with greens and baby’s breath to match the rest of the bridal party florals.  The floral design carried through to Wendy’s bouquet and the beautiful arch their ceremony was conducted under.

After their ceremony Wendy changed into a red dress.  Red plays a vital role in Chinese weddings.  The color red is associated with success, loyalty, honor, fertility, and love, amongst others things.  It was important to Wendy to bring that aspect of her culture into their wedding.

Cocktail hour was held in the  Chinese Scholar Garden followed by their wedding reception in the Tented Pavillion.

Their reception under the tent made for a beautiful evening filled with lots of love and dancing.  The tables were adorned with green and white florals and gold accents.

Tis the season for holiday planning.  Take a peek at some of the innovative and unique culinary experience Relish brings to your holiday table at our signature venue, Celebrate at Snug Harbor.  The gracious, professional, and attentive staff will tend to all the details to ensure your holiday event is memorable.

Small Plates

Few ingredients capture the season as well as roasted beets, figs and burrata.  Try a beet napoleon or burrata as the small plate option for your company to enjoy. They are a refreshing twist on traditional salad.

Hors D’Oeuvres

Hors d’oeuvres present a great opportunity to have fun with your menu. Break away from traditional choices and try something unexpected to add to the conversation.  Here are a few of our favorites for the holiday season.  The traditional eggroll takes is reinvented as “Philly Cheese Steak” creation, complete with creamy cheese sauce and crispy skin.  The chimichurri is a great compliment to any meat.  We love the vibrant green color as a compliment to the season.  Pig’s “in a blanket”, is one of the most popular hors d’oeuvres year round.  For holiday, Relish created an All beef “Pig in a Blanket” wrapped in house-made pretzel dough and roasted Brussel remoulade.

When Diana and Chris were planning their wedding day, they knew they wanted to escape the everyday hustle and bustle of Staten Island.  They fell in love with how you felt when you entered Snug Harbor; you were instantly surrounded by history, architectural elements and lush beautiful, gardens.

diana+chriswedding0770

Their wedding day had all the classic elements with some rustic touches that gave it a twist. Diana and Chris let the vibe of the Snug Harbor give them inspiration for their wedding day. They played off the architecture, wood, and natural greenery of the grounds.

diana+chriswedding0772

They began their day with a beautiful, very intimate “First Look”.  The smile on their faces to see each other for the first time on their wedding day was a breathtaking moment.  Danny their photographer, from Olli Studios captured the emotion perfectly.

Their ceremony took place in the Tuscan Garden surrounded by family, friends, and their dog Copper.

Diana looked stunning in her wedding gown from R.K Bridal while the rest of the bridal party was in blush and navy blue.

As a DIY element Diana and Chris incorporated for guests to sign Jenga game pieces to write well wishes or little notes to the couple.

Danny their photographer, from Olli Studios captured beautiful shots of Diana and Chris and their bridal party on the Snug Harbor grounds.

Diana and Chris kicked off their reception in the Upper Great Hall by sharing their first dance in front of guests to La Vie En Rose the version by Daniela Andrade.

Diana and Chris wanted a clean, rustic look for their reception.

The centerpieces, created by Carroll’s Florist consisted of wooden birch boxes with white roses, hydrangeas and baby’s breath.

The entire day you could just see how much love surrounded Diana and Chris, the smiles on their faces, especially during their parent dances brought us such joy.

diana+chriswedding0935

We love how Diana and Chris never stopped smiling during their wedding day.

At the end of the evening guests were given favors made by Chris’s sister which consisted of cucumber lime aroma beads in white satin bags.

Diana and Chris shared this piece of advice with us for our future couples

“Be prepared for the unexpected to happen. But don’t stress out about it.  Just take a few deep breathes and roll with it. Everything will work itself out. The most important thing on that day is for the couple to take in the experience and just have fun. The day goes by fast so soak in the moments!”

diana+chriswedding0752

Congratulations Diana and Chris, we could not have been happier to have you share your special day with us at Celebrate at Snug Harbor.  A special thanks to Danny from Olli Studios for their breathtaking wedding photos.

Orchids are never a bad idea. This elegant bouquet is a stunning combination of orchids, ranunculus, and celosia, plus pincushion protea and a frame of umbrella ferns.

Sunny Stems

If you’re looking for a bouquet to be subtle, yet charming, consider incorporating anemones to a leafy and smaller bundle. The combination of yellows, greens, and brown provide that rich autumn feel.

We saved our personal favorite for last. This autumn bouquet is a lovely combination of mustard yellow, peach, butter yellow, and pink roses in a cluster of mixed leaves. It takes our breath away!

You don’t have to have an unlimited amount of flowers for your centerpiece. Try elevating a smaller assortment of roses and eucalyptus leaves with an oversized flute vase. Top the centerpiece off with rustic branches to complete this wow factor piece.

Cary Pennington Photo Rustic branches

Give rustic a whole new meaning by painting any existing branches or twigs in your centerpiece. You can keep your floral arrangement small, while making the painted branches your focal point of the table. Very chic!

Allow the fall season to inspire your centerpiece by adding a touch of autumn harvest to it. Infusing small apple branches in this blush centerpiece is absolutely stunning and fitting for both an indoor or outdoor reception.

Sometimes the perfect centerpiece can be so simple and elegant that you don’t need flowers at all. This assortment of antiqued candle holders paired with a jeweled branch is just the right touch for a long dinner table.
You’ll want your table to capture the essence of the fall season: cozy and inviting. So be sure to use elements of the season to grab your guests’ attention at your reception. For more inspiration, check out our Pinterest page!

Modern Fall Wedding Invitations

Selecting a your wedding invitations sets the tone for your guests and gets everyone excited about your upcoming nuptials. Martha Stewart helps bring up some ideas for fall wedding invitations that are modern, elegant, and not too traditional for the season.

This charming invitation features letterpress bubbles throughout the borders in a lovely autumn yellow. Simple and elegant, this invitation leaves room to update flowers and color scheme.

Berry and Metallic Invites

Consider going for a mix of grey hues with metallic floral details. The rose gold in this invitation is perfect to blend with almost all fall colors.

Purple Water Color

Some of our favorite invitations have been watercolor invites. Go for a deep purple watercolor to get the varied purple shading. This is the optimal fall tone for your invites. Then find details, such as wedding coasters, to match the calligraphy with!
